Three Mobile Police officers attached to the Nigeria police on special duty from Zaria have been shut dead by suspected gunmen on Sunday night carting away their service rifles in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.
Though the report was sketchy as at the time of this report, it was gathered the three Mobile police officers simply identified, as Insp. Simon Madaki, Insp. Mutari Lawal and Sgt. Adamu Ibrahim were transferred from Mopol 47, Zaria in Kaduna nearly a year ago .
According to security sources who spoke on anonymous condition, “They were visiting Mobile from ‘Mopol 47, Zaria’ in Kaduna state and they have been in the hotel on a ‘Special Duty’ for nearly a year now.
The hotel, name withheld was formerly a Fast Food joint which was converted to a Club House and later a hotel.
Another security who spoke disclosed that, though no arrest has been been made, they were four mobile police guarding the hotel, while the three of them were outside, the surviving one was indoor and their service rifles were taken away by the hoodlums.
The source hinted further that the gunmen also went away with 120 rounds of live ammunition in company of the three AK 47 rifles belonging to the slain policemen.
“A fourth mobile policeman who is an inspector, had taken cover during the incident which lasted for an estimated 5mins.
“We also recovered 26 expended ammunition of 2.62 caliber at the scene of the incident which we suspect were shot by the hoodlums. However, investigation into the incident is ongoing towards arresting the hoodlums and recovering the stolen weapons.”
All efforts to speak with the CEO of the hotel for comments was not successful as calls and texts sent to his phone were not answered nor replied as at the time of this report.
